Valerie Bertinelli Defended Others Using GLP-1s & Would Never ‘Judge Anybody For How They Lose Weight’

Valerie Bertinelli is never one to shy away from a hard conversation, and when it comes to how people choose to take care of their bodies, she has a clear message: mind your own business. The 65-year-old actress and TV personality has been refreshingly open about her own journey with body image, and she’s not about to judge anyone else for the choices they make along the way.
When asked about GLP-1 weight loss medications, Bertinelli told PEOPLE she hasn’t tried them herself, but she was far from critical of those who have.
“I think whatever anybody does to help themselves get to a better place to where they feel good about themselves, they should do it,” she said, adding, “I may not want to have plastic surgery but I don’t judge anybody. I don’t judge anybody for how they lose weight. It’s flippin’ hard to do.”
That kind of grace extends to pretty much everything for Bertinelli, including plastic surgery, Botox, and weight loss drugs. She admitted she had tried Botox before but decided it wasn’t for her. “I didn’t like how it made my eyebrows go like this,” she joked, mimicking a strained expression. Her workaround? “You just get bangs, and they cover a lot of wrinkles!”
As for a neck lift, she said she had considered it, but a recent health scare gave her pause. After surgeries to remove her breast implants led to a serious infection and complications, she said she was understandably more cautious now. “I so badly wanted to get a neck lift, but I’m so scared after what I’ve been through,” she admitted. And that fear has slowly nudged her toward something she didn’t expect: self-acceptance.

That shift toward self-acceptance is at the heart of Bertinelli’s new book, “Getting Naked,” which was released on March 10, 2026. In it, she writes honestly about releasing shame, including the kind that gets tied up in how a woman looks and how much she weighs.
“I think we need to take a lot of the judgment out of all of it,” Bertinelli told PEOPLE, adding, “Plastic surgery, GLP-1s, anything that someone else is doing that doesn’t affect your life, leave them alone.”
And she’s not holding herself to a different standard either.
“It doesn’t mean I won’t have a neck lift. It doesn’t mean I won’t try GLP-1s. It means no for now.”
She described this new chapter in her life as “the quiet work of becoming perfectly imperfect,” a phrase that feels earned rather than rehearsed.
Beyond the book, Bertinelli planned to stay busy in the best way. She planned to launch a digital platform called Valerie’s Place, which she said would include cooking shows, a podcast, and a book group.
“I want to build a community, where, yes, it’s my place, but everybody is welcome,” she shared. “And I’ll do some live cooking shows.”
She also planned to head back to acting with a new Lifetime movie, “Love, Again,” premiering May 9, 2026. “It’s a gorgeous love story,” she said. “It was so much fun digging into a character and seeing how raw I can get with my emotions and how much I can lose myself.”
For a woman who’s spent years in the public eye being scrutinized, it sounds like Bertinelli is finally having the most fun she’s ever had!
