UPS Employee Trusts His Instinct, Saves Helpless Elderly Man Who Had Fallen And Been On The Floor For A Week

In this modern economy, it is possible to order just about anything that you need and have it delivered to your home. From medications to prepared meals and groceries to golf balls, you do not have to leave your house in order to get your essentials for daily living. For some people, this is a huge convenience. For others, it may mean a big decrease in human interactions.

For an elderly person who no longer drives or who lives alone, delivery people may be the only people they see on a regular basis. This is especially true for elderly people who are medically fragile or who have a chronic condition that makes it difficult for them to leave their homes.

The daily delivery of mail or the occasional delivery of a parcel may be the only times they see or talk to another person face-to-face.

A UPS driver with a rural route usually had a package or two to deliver to an elderly man each week. On one Thursday, he had a parcel for the man. He rang the bell, but nobody answered the door.

He left the parcel on the porch. One week later, the driver had another parcel for the man. He walked up to the man's porch only to see that last week's parcel was still there.

The driver knocked on the door. He heard the man's dog barking. The driver tried the door's lock and discovered that it was unlocked. He opened the door and called to the man. He saw that the man was on the floor, barely alive.

The man moved his hand a bit. The driver called 911 for emergency help. 'I had a bad feeling, so I knocked on the door and called his name. I heard his Rottweiler barking, so I turned the door handle and entered the house. I saw his feet first.' Holland told Yahoo Lifestyle.

The driver saved the man's life. He recommends that other drivers pay attention to elderly customers. He also recommends that neighbors pay attention.
