UPS Driver Adopts Playful Pit Bull On Her Route After Owner Dies

Driving the same route day in and day out, some UPS drivers form a special kind of relationship with the dogs on their route.

A recently launched Facebook group called UPS Dogs documents some of the interactions drivers have with pets on their routes. The page is full of cute photos of UPS drivers with dogs they meet each day. Many drivers who are members of the group will even show images of toys that they give to those cute pets.

Recently, UPS driver Katie Newhouser shared a sweet story of how she became even more involved in the life of one of the dogs on her route.

Katie frequently posts pictures she’s taken of her cuddling and playing with the dogs on her route near Rancho Cucamonga, California. One of her favorite dogs is Leo, a cute pit bull owned by Tina, one of her customers.

Katie eventually became dear friends with Tina, who told her of the special history she shared with Leo. Tina’s son Cannon had found Leo when the dog was just a small puppy. Tina bottle-fed Leo and the two soon became inseparable.

Katie was heartbroken when her good friend Tina died in 2017. She was also worried about what would happen to Leo. As an active duty Marine, Tina's son Cannon was unable to take care of Leo, and the dog was in danger of going to a shelter for homeless pets. Determined to give Leo the life he deserved, Katie adopted the beautiful dog.

Leo now lives a happy life with Katie and her other pets, two dogs and two cats. Her five pets often play together, teasing each other and running around her house.

Despite all the fun Leo has with his new friends, Katie did admit that there was a period of adjustment. She had trouble weaning Leo off human food. Leo also mourned for the loss of his former owner Tina, sometimes loudly whining at night.

Nevertheless, Leo perseveres, living each day to the fullest.
