On 29th April 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will mark a significant milestone in their relationship — their tenth anniversary. The couple, who share kids George, 7, Charlotte, 5 and Louis, 2, have established a name for themselves in the royal family as well as in public, and remain highly esteemed in the public eye. With the recent passing of Prince Philip, Kate's grace and poise through the funeral, and her management of familial relationships brought on

Kate and William always maintained a dignified presence in the media while also espousing a more modern version of royalty. The Express reports that there has long been a debate that Charles may hand over the throne to William and Kate earlier than anticipated because of William's relative popularity; he is relatable to the younger generation while also being approved by the older. William and Kate may very well become the King and Queen consort to the British throne in the next two decades as their approval rating only keeps soaring every year. William and Kate are truly the embodiment of regality in many ways.

This isn't to say that the royal couple has had it easy. Constantly being in the limelight and having all your actions judged is difficult enough, but Kate and William are also some of the most prominent members of the British royal family, which adds its own pressure. The Cambridges have, however, succeeded in becoming the most respected royal couple currently, and as they are set to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, royal experts and commentators are weighing in on what makes keeps their marriage strong.

Kate and William, though royal, are just like any other couple who have their ups and downs, but they have not let their relationship get in the way of their duty to serve the queen, said royal expert Duncan Larcombe in an interview with OK! Magazine

"William and Kate have got through 10 years of marriage and royal duties without so much as a moan," said Larcombe, adding, "Like any couple, they’ve had their ups and downs, their rows and tensions."

Their dedication to the queen has been in stark contrast to the actions of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who removed themselves as working senior members of the royal family. Larcombe agreed that Kate and William's dedication to duty sets them apart. "But their commitment to the Queen and to this country has been unwavering, and the controversy over Meghan and Harry’s departure from the UK has made that even clearer," he said.

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's abrupt departure as senior working members of the Royal Family in March 2020, the already tense relationship between Harry and the family ignited further after Harry and Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a controversial interview in March 2021. During the television special, the couple openly criticized the royal family and its culture.

Their television special has not been received warmly by most of the British media. Harry returned to the UK for the first time since his departure from the royal family after his grandfather's death in April 2021. As the media followed the "extremely frosty" relationship between Harry and William, Kate's grace and strength towards the royals during the tragic time was highly commended.

Coming to the couple's 10th anniversary, Larcombe states that it may be a quiet affair. Most anniversaries are celebrated privately by the couple, but this year's continued lockdown in the UK due to the coronavirus pandemic has most likely confirmed that there will be no big plans to celebrate the milestone event. Larcombe does believe that the queen may want to mark the occasion in her own way, especially because it represents the end of Kate's first decade of duty to the crown.

He elaborates, "An anniversary dinner or reception is obviously impossible because of the Covid-19 pandemic. And I don’t think the Queen will bestow any new honors or titles on the couple either." He explains that this is likely because Elizabeth already marked Kate’s eighth year of service by appointing her a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order in 2019.

The queen knows that when the time comes to hand over the throne to her son Prince Charles, Kate and William will be faced with a different role in the royal family altogether. Many have also speculated that the couple may also take on more responsibilities from Elizabeth soon, who has reportedly wanted to step back since the death of her beloved husband.

"But she is conscious of the fact that their status could soon change dramatically – when her own reign comes to an end,” Larcombe continued. The queen knows that this is a big year for the duke and duchess, so he also added, “Whatever she decides, as a Queen and grandmother, she will not let this occasion pass without paying tribute to Kate and William.”
