Unfit And Middle-Aged? Why You Might Be Doomed

Jun 25, 2018 by apost team

While leading a healthy life is of the utmost importance throughout your years,twenty-year-old has less concerns than say, someone in their fifty's. Sure, you understand the benefits of a brisk walk and bowl of shredded wheat, but you might be missing more in your life than you think and you are fixing for a whirlwind of problems.

Here's how the cards might be stacked against you:

Easier to Gain Weight, a Bigger Issue Than Appearance

An aged person may find that gaining weight is easy while keeping it off is nearly an impossible feat. Aside from not being good on the confidence, weight gain and an unfit lifestyle will more than likely contribute to high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Recent studies have shown that overweight individuals with high blood pressure are at a higher risk for dementia, too.

Strong Minded Yet Physically Weak

Being weak, or frailty, does not constitute a person who lacks in muscle mass, but is defined as anyone who is too thin, often exhausted, who has weak grip strength, low physical activity, and those with a fairly slow walking pace. Frailty and middle age pose a greater threat for falls and even premature death.

You Learn Something New Everyday, Unless You Don't Exercise

If you are someone who avoids the gym or walking path, you are not only dooming your body but your mind as well. Studies have proven that those who rarely exercise have a far lesser brain capacity than those who are regularly active. A deficiency in brain volume results in forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating and, as previously mentioned, dementia.

Not a Smoker? Good, but the Problems Don't End There

Even if you are not a smoker, being unfit later in life can still result in poor lung function. Breathlessness is normal and something that everyone experiences from time to time, whether because of physical activity, adrenaline-inducing activities, or allergies, but should never be a common occurrence. Regular exercise expands lung capacity, thus contributing to the avoidance of serious pulmonary issues.

Here at APost, we know that getting older is a difficult reality for most, but being middle-aged is not enough reason to throw in the towel and give up on being healthy. Instead, remaining fit later in life is as beneficial physically as it is mentally and will only better help you embrace life head on!
