Mateo de Jesús Márquez Juárez is not like other children. He loves to play like other kids, he enjoys reading like other kids, and his parents are his world like other kids. Physically though, he has something that sets him apart from others.

While he was still in the womb, Mateo's parents learned that their son had a large tumor on his face. They feared the worst but decided to carry him to full term nonetheless. That was when they began to sense a miracle happening.

Doctors told his family that they needed to wait another few years before they could operate so that he could stand the best chance of survival.

The wait for his parents must have been agonizing, but once he turned 4 an appointment was made to remove the tumor which had now grown to the size of a watermelon!

We're so thankful for whichever spirit guided him through this tough time!

After this difficult start to his life, we hope that Mateo can now begin to live as a normal child :)
