The boy from Overland Park, Kansas, was born with the crippling birth defect. Spina bifida is the result of the spinal cord and spine not properly developing in the womb. Roman's parents were proactive about dealing with his medical challenges. The boy had surgery while in utero to increase his chances of being able to walk one day.
Whitney had to let Roman fall a few times so that he would learn how to catch himself. Just hours after posting the clip on her Facebook, Whitney received hundreds of messages. She said that it was heartwarming to hear how Roman's perseverance has encouraged so many strangers from all around the world.
This video will surely encourage you as well. After you have watched Roman's first steps, be sure to spread the joy to everyone else in your social network. This is a little boy that we can all get behind.
