Two Women Are Captured On Camera Stealing Mementos From Graves In Cemetery

Most of us leave keepsakes on graves when a loved one passes away. It helps us to remember them and the things they loved and also shows others a small piece of who our loved ones were.

But in this story from 2017, a township in Ohio found that these personal items on graves kept going missing. It wasn't until the surveillance cameras at the cemetery were consulted, only to find two elderly women as the thieves.

Unfortunately, one of the newer crimes taking place is from people stealing those very items. One recent crime just like this took place in New London, Ohio at the Grove Street Cemetery.

A woman noticed that some of the recent mementos left on her relative’s graves had suddenly gone missing. She had left items on her parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents gravesites. She had even left a flower pot on her father’s grave that she had given him on Father’s Day 1977. She stressed how much it upset her and that it was irreplaceable.

There were two suspects involved in the crimes and they didn’t seem to realize that they were being recorded by the surveillance system at the cemetery. Shockingly enough, it was two older women! They made their rounds scouting out the cemetery for the perfect items they were going to take. They then pulled up to the graves and removed the items and then placed them in their car.

Items ranged from knick-knacks to rather large items. Some of them were even secured down with very heavy bricks but this didn’t stop them from taking them. The footage provided all the evidence that the police needed. The women were identified and charged. Everyone in the town was so shocked to find out who the suspects were.
