The news is constantly filled with stories about bullies, murders and the danger of strangers. At times, it is easy to focus too much on all of the problems of the world. When we focus on the dark side of life, it is easy to forget just how amazing our friends and neighbors can be.

In one recent case, two teenagers made a life-changing difference for a neighboring family. At the time, Jocelyn Rojas was only five years old. Like most afternoons, she was playing in front of her grandmother's building. It seemed like a fairly typical day. While Jocelyn played, her mother, Jaimee, kept an eye on her from through the window. Unfortunately, Jaimee turned her back for one second. In that brief moment, a strange man drove up in a maroon car.

He gave young Jocelyn some ice cream to eat.

The little girl stepped closer to the car. When she was close enough, the man snatched her up by the neck and made her get into the car. Soon, her mother looked out the window and realized that Jocelyn was gone. Jaimee became frantic and instantly called the police.

The police arrived with firefighters to search the neighboring streets. They brought police dogs to track Jocelyn's scent. Volunteers signed up to help search for the little girl. Everyone looked for two hours, but no one could find her anywhere.

The Heroes Appear

Luckily, two teenagers ended up saving the young girl. Chris Garcia was 13-years-old at the time. Temar Boggs was 15. While everyone was searching for Jocelyn, Temar was helping an elderly neighbor. One of the volunteers approached Temar to ask if he had seen Jocelyn.

When Temar heard that the girl was missing, he got his friend to join in the search.

The teenagers were determined that they would find the girl. They got on their bicycles and went to investigate the crime scene. As they grew closer to the scene, they noticed a maroon car swerving through the street. It hit a dead end and had to turn around. The vehicle seemed suspicious, so the boys followed the car. As the car turned onto another street, the driver whipped the vehicle around as soon as he noticed police cars. Now, the boys were certain that something was wrong.

They followed the car for 15 minutes before Temar finally managed to pull alongside the vehicle. He could see a man in the front seat, and Jocelyn in the back. The kidnapper's eyes connected with Temar. The teenager mouthed, “I see you.” Those three words are all that it took. The kidnapper stopped on a hill and let the girl escape. It seemed like the kidnapper wanted to avoid any witnesses and let her go.

Despite leaving Jocelyn behind, he ended up getting captured. The kidnapper turned out to be a 63-year-old sex offender. Thanks to the boys' description, police were able to put the kidnapper in jail.
