Two Grizzly Bears Start Fighting In The Middle Of A Highway In British Columbia

Cari McGillivray lives in Stewart, British Columbia and is probably used to seeing different wildlife around her home. After all, it is a vast area that is home to many different species, big and small. Seeing a deer on the side of the road or some wild birds is just a day in the life for residents here. Even wolves are spotted here and there in the wilderness.

But McGillivray was shocked to see two bears out on the highway in broad daylight as she was driving along. What was even more shocking was that the two very large grizzly bears were fighting. She was glad that her phone was out so that she could take a video to share with her friends and family.

McGillivray sat and took a video of the two bears locked in battle on September 20th, 2019. The video is two minutes long and shows the bears growling as they charge at one another. They also do battle while standing on their hind legs.

McGillivray posted the video after watching the bears go at it for a few minutes right along a busy highway. The street is called Stewart Cassiar Highway and is located between Meziadin and Stewart Junction.

The town is very close to the border of Alaska. She wrote that she just had to share the incredible moment with everyone after witnessing it herself.

McGillivray was not the only one who watched the intense fight go down in front of her. She spotted a wolf watching the fight from a safe distance back down the street. We certainly don’t blame the wolf at all.

McGillivray mentions keeping an eye out for the wolf when you watch the video. As you can see, one bear does seem to have an advantage over the other. The video ends when the larger animal chases the smaller one into nearby bushes. What an amazing fight to capture!

You can watch the video for yourself below:

The bears may or may not have been fighting over territory. It could also be a female bear defending her baby cubs from a male bear. Whatever the reason, we are sure glad that McGillivray was able to record the incident for us!
