The miracle of giving life is so beautiful. Each baby that is born healthy is a blessing. Oftentimes, we take birth for granted, but this story reminds us of pregnancy's complexities.

When pregnancy becomes complicated, there's only so much that doctors can do. But thanks to modern technology, almost anything is possible. This was the case with Mrs. Zalte's pregnancy.

Already far into her pregnancy, Mrs. Zalte was surprised when she learned at eight months that she was going to be giving birth to twins!

Though she was taken back by this news, the real story was just beginning to unfold.

When giving birth to twins, mothers are more at risk to experience birth-related complications. It was at the birth of Mrs, Zalte's twin sons that the doctors realized something was wrong.

Her sons, Love and Prince, were conjoined at the pelvis, intestines, bladder, liver, and stomach.

Despite this condition, the babies were both physically healthy. The mother fell in love at first sight and was completely welcoming with her two boys. Despite this, she worried how her community would accept the babies--would they reject them due to their condition?

The children's family members already made it clear once they heard the news: they wouldn't be visiting the boys and were not going to offer their support or help.

How heartbreaking! While their parents' love for the twins was quite strong, we imagine that it must've been difficult for the Zaltes to be alone during this time.

Throughout the children's first year the mother was determined to protect her children. She barely brought the babies outside and, if she did, she kept them covered up so that no one should comment or stare.

Though separating conjoined twins like Love and Prince is a complicated and rare surgery, the two boys went to the Wadia Children's Hospital to meet with the medical team. At nine months old, the twins were approaching an age that made it even more complicated to attempt the surgery. Despite this, the boys' parents believed that this opportunity was not to be missed.

In December of 2017, the two boys were separated at 15-months-old. Though the procedure lasted 12 hours, it was successful--the two conjoined twins were conjoined no more!

Prince and Love are now enjoying their lives as two toddlers. We're so thankful that the surgery went well!
