Twin Kittens Refuse To Part With The Other — Band Together To Survive

Aug 13, 2020 by apost team

Just like humans cling to each other for security, warmth, and protection, kittens also do the same. From the moment you get yourself a kitten, it is important that you not only look after it but also consider good food choices for the little life.

Having the kittens bond to human scent and handling isn't less important either. Kittens are playful and energetic. It is however important to recognize that not all foster kittens are fun and affectionate. Some require extra care and treatment. This was the case for little twins Jax and Jace from Arlington, Virginia, who helped each other survive their past ordeal.

Recently in Arlington, Virginia, a litter of kittens was brought into the Animal Welfare League. The litter clearly needed immediate foster care. However, twins Jax and Jace, who were part of the litter, were in a far worse condition than their siblings. They therefore required extra care and attention in order to survive.

To everyone else, survival for the set of twins was as good as impossible. However, Lauren Strycula on hearing about the two brothers quickly rose to the occasion. Lauren is a foster volunteer with an organization that is known as Kitten College Program. She openly volunteered to look after the helpless pair and give them a chance to live.

Within a week, Lauren had managed to take the twins and give them a new home. It immediately became clear to Lauren that taking care of the brothers would not be a walk in the park. The two kittens were experiencing a problem latching on and feeding. The first week with the twins was a challenge for Lauren.

She specified that Jace seemed to have the most problems. He had a hard time eating anything. As a result, he failed to gain weight as he should have. Lauren observed that Jax, though better than his counterpart, soon got the hang of it.

Lauren’s first week was a hectic one. Both kittens had trouble feeding on the bottle. Soon diarrhea caught up with the two but Lauren sought medication from the local vet. She told LoveMeow that these early days were not easy for them. She however also stated that the two brothers had begun suckling and eating well. She mentioned how emotional it was watching Jace with his struggle.

She expected them to be gaining some weight. Jax bounced like a champ and fed with ease. Jace followed, and shoulder to shoulder, the two brothers beat the odds and began to gain weight. This was all thanks to Lauren who believed in them and step by step steered them to greatness.

Lauren commented that though Jace was a serious little guy, he was just as cuddly as Jax. She observed that Jace, despite his seriousness, was very cunning at times. This is something Lauren fell in love with. Lauren stated that apart from their unique personalities and slightly different facial markings, the two appeared identical.

She said that the only way you could differentiate Jace from his twin brother was the fact that his blaze and hat were quite crooked. He also has a white right ear.

When it was time to sleep, Lauren usually separated the twins. This she said was prompted by their behavior of suckling on each other for comfort. This is a common reaction among orphaned kittens. Unfortunately, this can be harmful to the long-term development of both kittens.

She insisted that the behavior should be dealt with as soon as possible. She later stated that the brothers had started sleeping together more often as they grew older. The kittens are currently living in foster care.
