Madonna married Sean Penn in 1985, only for them to split four years later. In 2002, she married Guy Ritchie, a British director. They had a son called Rocco John Ritchie. She had already had a daughter, Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, with previous personal trainer Carlos Leon. Ritchie and Madonna split in 2008. Madonna then went on to adopt another son from Malawi named David Banda.

Madonna made her current relationship status official on New Year's Eve 2020. She said that she was in a relationship with Ahlamalik Williams. The 27-year-old dancer is only two years older than Madonna's oldest child, though maybe age is just a number. Madonna and Williams have known each other for half a decade. Williams has two siblings and was born and raised in Sacramento.

Madonna and Williams have been dating since the summer of 2019. They first met during the Rebel Heart Tour in 2015, and he has been a part of her life ever since. According to IMDB, in 2016, he starred in two of her music videos and appeared in a documentary about the Rebel Heart Tour. Once announced, their relationship was not taken well by everyone.

Madonna spoke to Billboard in 2012 about dating a younger man. At the time, she was romantically involved with Brahim Zaibat, a 24-year-old dancer. She said, "I didn't write down on a piece of paper, I'm now going to have a relationship with a younger man. You see, that's the romantic in me. I just met someone that I cared for. This happens to be his age, I don't want to live life on my own. I love being a mother, but I need a partner in life."

Madonna's romantic history is filled with ups and downs, and one of her more high-profile relationships was with rapper Tupac Shakur. The couple dated in the early 1990s and were not together for too long, but with both of them being superstars at the time, they certainly made headlines.

A letter has resurfaced from 1995, written by Shakur to Madonna, and it suggests that the relationship ended due to their being of different races. "For you to be seen with a Black man wouldn't in any way jeopardize your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting," Tupac wrote in the letter. "But for me at least in my previous perception, I felt due to my 'image' that I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was."

Shakur was very open in the letter and even apologized to Madonna for causing her any hardship. "Like you said, I haven't been the kind of friend I know I am capable of being," he wrote. "I never meant to hurt you."

The rapper also admitted that he had been hurt by Madonna as well. Shakur referenced a statement that the singer made in an interview that offended him and 'cut' him deeply. He said that she told the interviewer: "' I'm off to rehabilitate all the rappers and basketball players' or something to that effect."

Shakur explained that Madonna's statement had come as a shock to him. "Those words cut me deep seeing how I had never known you to be with any rappers besides myself," the letter said. "It was at this moment out of hurt and a natural instinct to strike back and defend my heart and ego that I said a lot of things."
