Unfortunately, there are not medicinal remedies for every ailment. They can also sometimes be expensive or harsh on your body anyways. That is where home remedies come in. They don't cost as much, they're natural, and they work for the nagging pains that doctors sometimes can't quite figure out.

One home remedy that people are talking about is putting a bar of soap under your fitted bed sheet. So what does doing this treat? It treats a medical condition that about half of people suffer from. Yes, this sounds weird but people swear by it.

The medical condition mentioned is restless leg syndrome and leg cramps that can occur at night. This is a neurological disorder where a person might feel discomfort in their legs while their body is at rest. A charley horse is another name that this is called.

Moving your legs tends to make the pain worse but putting soap under your sheets usually helps. Too much exercise, mineral or vitamin deficiencies or dehydration can contribute to these types of cramps. Also, things like kidney failure, diabetes, pregnancy and consuming alcohol have been linked.

42% of the people that suffer from it have found that this adding of soap helps. It's because of the magnesium that is in soap, according to doctors.

Dr. Oz says that lavender soap is key to helping your body relax during sleep. All of this may seem like a myth but many people can attest to its benefits.

One person posted on Steady Health that they herniated a disc in their lower back in 1997. This caused nerve damage and severe pain in their lower back and right leg for 11 years. They know this solution did alleviate the pain for them because they weren't able to sleep in their bed for about 10 years. They slept in a recliner instead.

On the third day of sleeping in the bed with the soap under their sheet, the awoke to no pain. They recommended that even though it sounds weird people try out this remedy.

Another person thought their mother might be fooling herself by trying to do this to relieve herself of the pain from leg cramps. They saw that she felt better, and now they are doing it themselves, sleeping with several bars in their bed in fact. They learned that the trick is to place the soap wherever they have pain, from feet to head.

So not only did she and her mother try this, but she's got her husband doing it as well. She says it works for them, using any type of soap. It doesn't resolve the pain completely but it makes it bearable for her to get to sleep when she does have these pains.

She concludes that it is definitely worth a try for anyone that is suffering from this sort of leg cramp. It is suggested that the type of soap that you use be natural with an essential-oil based scent.

Bear in mind that it is old-folk remedy that does not replace a doctor's consultation. If you know of other natural home remedies then please do share them in the comments section. They may just help someone relieve their pain.
