Tony Alsup recently did his best Noah imitation. However, he did not have an Ark to drive. Instead, he made use of a bus. Alsup will not let anyone suffer the pain of being deserted during a natural disaster. And he extends this consideration to animals. The Washington Post reported on his remarkable story.

Alsup hails from Greenback, Tennessee and converted an old bus he purchased into a mobile animal shelter. He has used the bus to rescue animals who were left behind during natural disasters like Hurricanes Florence and Harvey. He traveled to South Carolina in the aftermath of Florence. While there, Alsup was able to save 53 dogs and 11 cats according to The Washington Post.

Alsup explained to the publication that often times animals have the least desirable position when they are on a bus. He says this is why he decided to buy them their own bus. He also says he is willing to purchase a boat or any other vehicle necessary to rescue the animals from dangerous situations. Alsup first took up the call to rescue animals from natural disasters during Hurricane Harvey. He traveled to Texas after seeing on the news that many animal shelters in the state were completely overcrowded.

He used his bus to transfer animals from overcrowded shelters to places that had room for them. He then went on to rescue animals in Hurricanes Maria and Irma. When Alsup made his trip to South Carolina, he asked people on Facebook to provide him with locations that could use his help the most.

One shelter, Saint Frances Animal Center gave a special thanks to Alsup on Facebook and explained how he showed up at four in the morning to take a load of sick dogs off their hands and take them to a place they would be safe.

Alsup says many of the dogs he rescues have a hard time finding new families after their evacuations. He says most people fall in love with the small and cute dogs but often show no interest in dogs that are large and a little older. However, Alsup says that he will never leave any dog behind and works to make sure their lives are improved in every way.
