The Parade is to be marched by 1,400 members of the military, 200 horses and 400 musicians in central London to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s official birthday.

Queen Elizabeth’s ancestors began the ceremony over 250 years ago according to the BBC. In 1748 King George II decided that since he was born in November, a terrible month for weather in the United Kingdom, he should have his big celebrations in the summer month of June. The monarchy has held on to this tradition since, and “Trooping the Colour” is how they do so.

Although the weather might not be on the crowds side today with overcast and a chance of rain, that did not stop thousands of fans of the royal family to flood the streets of London waving the Union Jack.
