With the strict parameters that society puts on beauty standards, it’s no wonder people are devastated when their appearance strays from the norm.

Ivanka Danisova, a Slovakian-born triplet, was born with Goldenhar syndrome, a congenital disability. Some of the adverse effects included an underdeveloped face, weakened immune system, and inadequate hearing. Doctors gave her a gloomy prognosis. Ivanka told Cater News that she was “given no hope.” In fact, medical professionals told Ivanka that her syndrome would rob her of a long and fulfilling life.

No doubt a grim forecast, Ivanka felt hopeless during her adolescence. Ivanka often wondered why she was chosen to endure such hardship. While in school, Ivanka was taunted for her abnormal looks. She hated feeling different and was all too often reminded that she didn’t fit the definition of beauty.

It was Ivanka’s sisters who made her feel whole again. Their unwavering love and kindness inspired Ivanka to give life another try. If not for her siblings, Ivanka would’ve never persevered. Her sisters helped shape her into a “brave and fearless” go-getter. These days, Ivanka uses her story to encourage others to embrace their flaws.

She even introduced Rainbow for Ivanka, a campaign that seeks to spread awareness of Goldenhar syndrome. Rainbow for Ivanka urges people to take pictures with one half of their face covered. Ivanka hopes that this message will demonstrate solidarity.

It’s Ivanka’s dream to spark a movement that influences people to be themselves unapologetically. What’s more, Ivanka hopes to eliminate the stigmas that surround birth defects.
