Soldiers experience the horrors of war and combat first-hand. These traumatic experiences often cause life-long mental issues and addictions. In order to cope with these difficult emotions and scenarios, soldiers have to keep their spirits alive in many different ways. Men and women who help to protect the United States are sent to foreign countries without their families or friends. They are forced to live vicariously through social media and other forms of contact.

Sergeant Kevyn Solarez was experiencing an especially devastating time during this third deployment. The holidays were just around the corner, and he was trying his hardest to keep morale high.

All of the sudden, a small puppy wandered into the camp and instantly boosted the Sergeant's spirits.

The puppy was only two-month-old during their first meeting. Sergeant Kevyn Solarez ended up naming the puppy Josie. The two unlikely friends bonded instantly. The Sergeant was even willing to offer Josie half of his meals each time he ate. Josie's face was simply too cute to ignore.

The Sergeant gives credit to Josie for keeping his confidence and morale high during his third deployment in Iraq. He reported to a local news station that their bond grew stronger through their trials.

He told FOX 7 Austin, “Just us kind of going through the hard times makes our bond a little stronger than average.”

Eventually, the Sergeant was able to return to the United States. Despite his eagerness to return home, he couldn't forget about his new friend Josie. He was afraid that the puppy would become injured in Iraq.

He worked with SPCA International to bring the dog home to the United States. The request was approved and preparations were made immediately.

Despite the quick response, Sergeant Kevyn Solarez still had to wait 45 days for Josie to be sent from Iraq to the United States. After over a month of anticipation, the day finally arrived when the two would be reunited. Josie was a bit shaken after the long plane ride, but she eventually found her way into the arms of the Sergeant. She was home at last with her best friend.

The Sergeant told Fox 7, “Today is going to make the whole deployment worth it.”Their reunion was caught on camera and shared online.

The video captures the emotional moment that the two embrace for the first time in over a month. This is a magical moment that proves even hardened soldiers need love and affection.

Josie is now adjusting to her new life in the United States. What do you think of this precious story? Let us know in the comments and pass this along to your friends and family to see what they think!
