Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, both 63, sent shockwaves early on in March when they revealed that they had both been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus.

The legendary actor took to his Facebook account on Sunday evening to share an update with his fans on his and his wife's recovery, two weeks after their first symptoms appeared. Hanks assured everyone they "feel better," but also used the opportunity to urge his fans to stay home and take social distancing seriously.

In his post, Hanks told his fans he and his wife are ‘feeling better’.

“Hey, folks. Two weeks after our first symptoms and we (Rita Wilson) feel better,” he wrote. “Sheltering in place works like this: You don’t give it to anyone - You don’t get it from anyone. Common sense, no? Going to take awhile, but if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts...this, too, shall pass. We can figure this out. Hanx”

On March 12, Hanks took to Instagram where he announced he and his wife had tested positive for Coronavirus while in Australia. The post was accompanied by a photo of a medical glove in a biohazard trash bin.

"To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive."

He wrote that he and Rita came down with fever and chills, and the two went to get tested and are now taking the situation one day at a time.

The couple has since used their social media accounts to give fans regular updates on their recovery. In another post, they shared a photo along with a caption that gave followers an update on how the couple is doing since their diagnosis. Hanks and Wilson assured fans that Australian Doctors were “taking such good care” of them as they are currently in isolation to avoid spreading the virus.

“We are taking it one-day-at-a-time,” the caption reads. “There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball.”

Rita has also been keeping her fans updated through her own Instagram account. Earlier this week, she posted a hilarious video of herself rapping along to the hit 1992 song Hip Hop Hooray by Naughty by Nature.

When news came out about Hanks and Wilson's diagnosis, their son Chet undoubtedly received many messages from concerned fans. He made an Instagram video to share his thoughts and updates saying:

"What's up everyone. Yeah, it's true, my parents got coronavirus, crazy. They're both down in Australia right now because my dad was shooting a movie down there," Chet remarks in the video.

"But I just got off the phone with them and they both are fine. They're not even that sick, they're not worried about it, they're not tripping, but they're going through the necessary health precautions, obviously. But I don't think it's anything to be too worried about."

Chet's brother Colin Hanks also made his own statement on Instagram thanking everyone for their support and ensuring the public that his parents are in good spirits:

"I appreciate everyone's concern and the well wishes, but I think it's all gonna be alright. I appreciate it and just, everybody, stay safe out there. Much love," he added at the end.

Chet's brother Colin Hanks also made his own statement on Instagram thanking everyone for their support and ensuring the public that his parents are in good spirits:

We’re glad to see Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson in good spirits! We wish them a speedy recovery.
