Tom Hanks has established an incredible career, starring in more than 80 films over the years. So, to say Hanks has made only a few great films would be an understatement, considering he has numerous well-loved blockbusters and award-winning films under his belt.

Some of Hanks’s most notable films include “Sleepless In Seattle,” “Apollo 13,” “Philadelphia,” “Forrest Gump,” and the “Toy Story” franchise.

Hanks has shown his wide range as an actor over his four decades in the film industry as he has played a variety of characters and showcased just how capable and adaptable he can be. Along with this, he has also proven himself as a producer, screenwriter and director for a plethora of films and television shows.

Hanks’s impressive career has made him a favorite with both fans and critics, as he has won a litany of awards and accolades, and he is easily one of the most beloved actors in the industry today.

Aside from being hailed as “America’s dad,” Hanks also has a mighty family of his own. He is wed to Rita Wilson, and they are a well-known power couple in Hollywood. The couple has two sons together, Chet and Truman, while Hanks has two children from a previous relationship, Colin and Elizabeth. All of them in the family are actors, have tried acting at one point in time, or work in the entertainment industry behind the scenes.

Hanks made a welcome appearance on a “Last Meals” episode hosted by chef Josh Scherer on Jan. 19, 2023, to list his must-have foods for his last meal. Making the cut were challah French toast; a Double-Double and Diet Coke from In-n-Out; a Greek salad with calamari and a side of taramasalata; and, El Cholo’s Taste of History platter. But the special fare that – literally – took the cake was Hanks’ dessert option.

For dessert, the two-time Oscar winner chose a cake he receives every year from none other than the “Top Gun” himself – Tom Cruise.

With the cake before him, Hanks couldn’t help but marvel at it.

“Isn’t it gorgeous? This cake is so great you can really only have it once a year,” Hanks said, before explaining part of its novelty is the fact he doesn’t buy it for himself.

“I don’t order it, it arrives as a gift at Christmas. Now I’m gonna drop a name now and I don’t want you to go berserk. But this is a big name. Not everybody gets this white chocolate coconut bundt cake. This is a Christmas gift that we get every year from… Tom Cruise,” Hanks explained to Scherer’s delight.

Hanks said the cake is a major hit with staff at his Playtone production company, saying, “They start eyeing what mail has come in? Is the big box coming in? Are we getting, what has essentially been called, the ‘Tom Cruise cake?’”

He said while everyone cuts themselves a substantial-sized slice at the beginning, “as time goes by, we realize the days are numbered on this cake (and) everybody starts slicing thinner and thinner slices,” Hanks remarked.

“It’s a mathematical proof that if you just keep cutting everything in half, you will never run out of ‘Tom Cruise cake.’”

While it might be fun to picture megastar Cruise busying himself in his kitchen baking piles of cakes for his famous friends come the holiday season, it isn’t quite his style. Instead, the “Mission Impossible” actor orders the $110 white chocolate coconut bundt cake from Doan’s Bakery in Woodland Hills, California. It is also available for order on the Goldbelly website, which describes the dessert as “a ring of moist, luxurious coconut bundt cake, mix in chunks of sweet white chocolate, layer on rich cream cheese frosting, and then dust it all over with toasted coconut flakes. The result is a delicious, pillowy cake good enough to derail the strictest Hollywood diets.”

Meanwhile, Hanks is not the only celebrity Cruise has bestowed the sweet treat. Comedian Rosie O’Donnell has gushed about receiving the “Tom Cruise cake” on a few occasions, the last being in December 2022.

Actress Cobie Smulders, who starred alongside Cruise in “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” described receiving the “Tom Cruise cake” to talk show host Jimmy Fallon – who also gets the cake – as the “most glorious time of year.” She added she keeps the cake in her freezer so she can enjoy it until March.

Other celebrities lucky enough to receive the cake include his “Top Gun: Maverick” co-stars Jon Hamm and Miles Teller, and his “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” co-star Henry Cavill, who raved about it after initially harboring doubts. “So I get the cake and I’m thinking it’s some kind of super healthy coconut kind of thing which doesn’t taste amazing... so I left it in the fridge,” he told Access Hollywood. When he finally did have a bite, he described it as “the most decadent, the most amazing, the most surprising cake, to receive from someone like Tom Cruise. I loved it. Smashed it.”
