Tom Hanks And Wife Rita Wilson Test Positive For Coronavirus In Australia

Celebrities Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have announced the news on social media today that they have tested positive for coronavirus. They are currently in Australia where Hanks was slated to begin production on a new film.

The news was announced by Tom Hanks himself on an Instagram post along with a photo of a medical glove in a biohazard trash bin.

"To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive."

He writes that he and Rita came down with fever and chills, and the two went to get tested and are now taking the situation one day at a time. They will be following medial protocol according to professionals and are being treated in isolation in a Gold Coast hospital, according to The Sun.

Tom Hanks was in Australia to film a movie directed by Baz Luhrmann (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge) based on the life of Elvis Presley. He was cast in the role of his manager Col. Tom Parker, according to Vanity Fair

The production has been halted and Queensland authorities are working with the production company, Warner Brothers, to ensure the safety of everyone involved reports The Sun.

The New York Times reports that Hanks is the most prominent figure that has been diagnosed with COVID-19 (coronavirus), putting him in the position of being a very public face to the pandemic.

Journalist Ann Curry wrote on Twitter in regards to Hanks' diagnosis: "Ok, now we all have someone we love diagnosed with #coronavirus."
