Jul 02, 2019 by apost team

With her life story now the plot of the West End musical “Tina” and her memoir “Tina Turner: My Love Story” having just been published, Tina Turner is addressing her personal life in a more direct way than ever. She's opening up about a lot of things, including the tragic story of her son Craig's suicide last year.

Craig Raymond Turner passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound last July in his home in California, Variety reported. The 59-year-old former real estate agent was the son of Tina and her then-boyfriend Raymond Hill, a saxophone player for her band in the late 1950s. In her recent interview with Gayle King on CBS Sunday Morning, Tina opened up about her son’s death.

"I think Craig was lonely, that's what I think really got him more than anything else," Tina told Gayle. "I have pictures all around of him smiling, and I think I'm sensing that he's in a good place. I really do."

When Tina broke up with Raymond, Craig was officially adopted by Ike Turner, Tina’s first husband, and infamously monstrous spouse. The marriage ended in 1978. Tina also spoke about the tumultuous relationship with Ike in the interview.

"He was cruel because he depended on me," Tina said. "He didn't like that he had to depend on me. And I didn't want to start a fight because it was always a black eye, a broken nose, a busted lip, a rib."

Now 79 years old, Tina has stayed strong through her many obstacles in part because of the support of her husband Erwin, a German record executive who she married in 2013.

Tina now lives in Switzerland as a Swiss citizen. She is a devout Buddhist and has adopted a very Zen outlook on life. She told Gayle,

"I have everything. When I sit at Lake Zurich in the house that I have, I am so serene. No problems. I had a very hard life. But I didn't put blame on anything or anyone. I got through it, I lived through it with no blame. And I'm a happy person."
