Tina Turner recently did something no mother should ever have to do. Her son, Craig Raymond Turner, committed suicide on July 26th. He was just 59-years-old. The singer spread his ashes in California and shared a heartfelt post on social media while doing so.

The 78-year-old singer paid tribute to her son on a post shared to social media. She joined family and friends on a boat to spread his ashes off of the coast in California.

Craig died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on July 26th and was found at his home in Studio City, according to the website TMZ. At the time, Tina was attending an event in Paris known as the Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week. Tina stated in her post that while her son may have been 59, he would always be her baby.

Her heartfelt post was shared thousands of times on social media, along with pictures of her spreading the ashes from the boat. While the official autopsy report has yet to be released, Ed Winter, the assistant chief of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, confirmed that Craig’s death was due to suicide.

Tina gave birth to Craig when she was 18-years-old. Raymond Hill was the father. Tina then went on to get married to Ike Turner, who adopted the young child and proceeded to give him his last name. Craig went on to study at Santa Monica College and was in real estate. Craig was not married at the time of his demise, nor did he have any children.

Tina has three other children: Ronnie, Ike Jr., and Michael. She has yet to release an official statement concerning Craig’s suicide.

Tina revealed to Oprah Winfrey in May of 2005 that Craig was witness to the abusive marriage between her and Ike Turner. She said that while all of the children saw the abuse, Craig was very emotional and took it hard. While the other children would see the black eyes and bruises and look away, it would visibly upset Craig to see his mother beaten.

Craig had already graduated from high school when Tina was finally able to get away from her husband. After 16 years of abuse, Tina ran away in the middle of the night with only 36 cents in her pocket.

She has since married Erwin Bach, a German music producer. According to Ike Jr., Tina put a lot of distance between her and her past, moving to Switzerland and taking care of the kids financially from afar. He says that she does not want anything to do with her previous life since getting away from the abuse.
