Many people use their birthdays as a way to raise money for charities that are important to them. In fact, Facebook automatically gives you the option of asking friends for donations on your birthday. Animal shelters, research teams, hospitals, and more are often selected as the recipients of the funds raised. If your friends are generous, you can usually raise a good bit of cash for your favorite organization.

Tim Tebow is a football celebrity who definitely has a lot of friends and fans. He is able to use his status to raise money for a number of important causes. He is well known for his "Night to Shine" campaign in which special needs young adults are given a prom just for them.

However, he has always cared about the less fortunate, even when he was just a young child.

On the Tim Tebow Foundation About-page, Tim talks about his early years.

He spent some time in the Philippines with his parents, who served there as missionaries for many years. During his time there, Tim learned about the importance of caring for others and giving back to those who are less fortunate. He has carried these values with him into his adult years.

Tebow often talks about Sherwin, a 15-year-old boy from a remote village in the Philippines who was born with feet that were literally backward. The town viewed him as "cursed," so Sherwin was used to being shunned by the public. Tebow has talked about how the villagers realized that the good news of the Bible applies to everyone after they saw him holding the young boy.

In 2010, Tebow created the Tim Tebow Foundation with the goal of bringing love, hope, and faith to those who need it the most.

On August 14th, Tim turned 32. He used his birthday as a platform to ask for funds to help the needy children in the Philippines. He set his goal at $150,000, to begin with. By the time Tim actually celebrated his birthday, he had surpassed that goal. With the money raised, the foundation was able to fund 200 life-changing surgeries for kids in the Philippines.
