Tim Allen Says Staying Sober For 21 Years Has Been His 'Biggest Blessing'

Tim Allen has a lot of blessings to count after a long, successful career in TV and movies. He is an actor that audiences know for his voice talents in the “Toy Story” franchise, and comedic skills in “Home Improvement.” But after all of that success, he counts his “biggest blessing” as his two decades of sobriety.

Tim Allen opened up about his personal life in a recent interview with Parade including his early life and family. He reflected upon the two and a half year stint in federal prison on cocaine possession charges. He also mentioned his DUI arrest in 1998, the same year as he was working on “Toy Story 2.”

Promptly after his arrest, he entered rehab, which has helped him to keep sober going on 21 years now, and he says “That’s the biggest blessing in my life.” His present lifestyle now includes lots of good habits like exercise and healthy eating, as well as golf and going to the theater with his wife Jane Hajduk.

Hajduk and Allen have been married for 13 years and live in Los Angeles with their 10-year-old daughter Elizabeth. He also has a 29-year-old daughter, Katherine, from a previous marriage. Tim Allen fans will know that he is a “car guy” and it seems it has been passed on to his daughter. Her production company works on documenting hot-rod builds around the city.

For a guy who plays an astronaut, he is also surprisingly grounded and down-to-earth. Perhaps it's attributed to his interest in philosophy and his daily meditation practice, of which his thinking is “It’s all gonna be all right. Everything’s all right, right here.”
