The '90s have been trending in the fashion world, but it seems like entertainment is catching on now too. It's been announced that two of the stars of the hit sitcom Home Improvement, Tim Allen and Richard Karn, will be returning together on a new competition show titled Assembly Required on the History Channel, set to air in 2021.

Home Improvement ran on ABC for basically all of the '90s, and was an immensely popular sitcom, winning many awards and launching the career of comedian and actor Tim Allen. It centered on the Taylor family, who lived in suburban Detroit, and their next-door neighbor Wilson, who was the go-to man for helping the Taylors solve any problems they encountered.

One of the best parts of the series was "Tool Time," a fictional show-within-a-show, in which Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor was joined by his friend Al, played by Richard Karn, and a "Tool Time girl," who was even played by Pamela Anderson at one point, in a series about home improvement.

Well now, two decades later, Tim Allen and Richard Karn are heading back into the workroom on a new show called Assembly Required, according to Today. The series will be a competition show similar to Forged in Fire, in which contestants will participate in mechanical building challenges from their own workshops. Richard Karn will be hosting, while Allen will star in the show

As reported by Variety, Allen discussed the thinking behind the show, stating:

"Let’s face it, we’re living in a throwaway society. We buy, break, replace… rinse and repeat. Whatever happened to repair and rebuild?!"

He went on to add:

“There are some people who unfriend, unfollow and dispose of anything that offends, annoys or breaks—so I’ve created a show to remind people of the satisfaction and pride that comes from rebuilding something on their own."

The actor makes some valid points about the way society treats many things as disposable, so here's hoping Assembly Required will inspire people to repair, reuse, and recycle.

Allen then comments on the reunion with his Home Improvement co-star, stating: "And who better to join me than my buddy from the old Tool Time days—Richard Karn! Now we’re talking More Power!"

Set to air on The History Channel, Eli Lehrer, executive vice president and general manager of History, said:

“We look forward to partnering with Tim and Richard, America’s beloved duo, as they challenge a new wave of skilled individuals to think out-of-the-box to build upon the innovations of those before them. We hope this series will inspire viewers to think twice about throwing out that old item, roll up their sleeves and rebuild it better.”

Ten episodes have been ordered of Assembly Required, which will appear on History sometime in 2021.
