Tim Allen Admits He’s Never ‘Trusted A Human Being As Much As’ Tom Hanks, Reveals Their ‘Peculiar Lunches’

Tim Allen has a lot of blessings to count after a long, successful career in TV and movies. He is an actor that audiences know for his voice talents in the “Toy Story” franchise, and his comedic skills in the TV series “Home Improvement” and movie franchise "The Santa Clause." For a guy who famously played an astronaut, Allen is also surprisingly grounded and down-to-earth — despite being a big star, he stays away from the Hollywood buzz and keeps to himself as a family man.

Allen's partner-in-crime in the incredibly successful "Toy Story" films is Tom Hanks, who has also established an incredible career, starring in more than 80 films over the years. To say Hanks has made only a few great films would be an understatement, considering he has numerous well-loved blockbusters and award-winning films under his belt. Some of his most notable films include "Sleepless In Seattle," "Apollo 13," "Philadelphia," "Forrest Gump" and, of course, the "Toy Story" franchise. He's so well-loved that many people have even dubbed him "America's dad."

While Allen and Hanks make a great pair in the "Toy Story" movies as Buzz Lightyear and Sheriff Woody respectively, it's their friendship in real life that's truly admirable. Allen opened up about their friendship — and the biannual lunches they go on — during an appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show" in November 2022. The actor spoke very highly of Hanks and revealed just how close their friendship really is. Read on to learn more about the real-life friendship between Buzz Lightyear and Woody!

Buzz Lightyear and Sheriff Woody are perhaps one of the most famous movie friendships the screen has ever seen. Although they didn't get off to the best start, their shenanigans charmed audiences the world over. So it's not all that surprising to learn that Allen and Hanks — who voiced the characters respectively — are also friends in real life.

However, it wasn't until Allen spilled the beans on their friendship during a November 2022 appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show" that the world learned how close they really are.

Kelly Clarkson asked Allen about the fact that he had been recently photographed dining with Hanks, which led to speculation that there was perhaps a fifth "Toy Story" movie in the works. Allen might have dodged the question as it relates to the film franchise, but he did let everyone in on the pair's tight bond.

The former "Home Improvement" star revealed that he and Hanks had "really become very close friends from Toy Story 1." He added that Hanks was "a very different person" than him before quickly pointing out, "he eats off my plate."

Allen explained he came from a family where "you don't do that," so when Hanks got overly familiar with Allen's french fries on the set of the first "Toy Story" film, it took some getting used to. But he was quick to add just how much he loved him.

"He and I differ on so many things. I adore that man's heart and mind."

Allen then dished on the pair's "peculiar lunches":

"We've been going to lunch since Toy Story 1, two times a year, and we're like two older women 'cause we will sit almost too close to each other at a booth. It's just weird."

Allen added that Hanks' wife, Rita Wilson, doesn't even know what the two of them talk about on their lunches, which occur "two, three times a year." Allen enlightened the host and audience on just how good a person Hanks really is — as if there was ever any doubt!

"And I don't think I've ever trusted a human being as much as Tom to even listen to me and vice versa. We have very different opinions on so many things, but he's gotten me to accept — he's really a wonderful and engaging person. He's the first guy to listen to me and doesn't judge."

The actor revealed that Hanks taught him to listen "and not jump in" while another person is talking. Allen then revealed a rule to live by that another friend of his taught him:

"Don't should on people. 'You know what you should do.' Don't throw in your opinion, just listen and be able to walk away from that and think, 'Good, I heard what somebody said.'"

It's endearing to think of Hanks and Allen — two major comedic actors of their generation — getting together for a good old catch-up over a delicious meal.

While Allen didn't deny or confirm whether we can expect a new "Toy Story" film, he did speak up earlier in 2022 about actor Chris Evans voicing Buzz Lightyear in Pixar's "Lightyear" movie. He told Extra:

"The short answer is I've stayed out of this 'cause it has nothing to do (with my character). ... This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies."

He said "Lightyear" has "a wonderful story, it just doesn't seem to have any connection to the toy."
