TikToker Traveled 6,000 Miles To Remove Old Love Lock She Left On Tourist Attraction With Her Ex-Boyfriend

Love is a wonderful thing, which is why when two people are in love, they want the world to know about it. The way in which couples share their love can range from ceremonies such as weddings to more intimate affairs like romantic vacations away. In terms of leaving a permanent mark of their love, it's not uncommon for couples to write their initials within a heart on a tree trunk or perhaps get matching tattoos.

Another way in which couples have shown devotion to their love is through love locks, which are a popular symbol of love that many couples, young and old, like to leave on bridges and other tourist attractions while on vacation. The fad became quite popular in Europe around the early 2000s and is now practiced worldwide in various tourist locations.

TikToker Kassie Yeung, 23, traveled from Los Angeles to Seoul, South Korea to remove a love lock that she had left on Namsan Tower in 2019 with her then-boyfriend. Now that the two have broken up, Yeung embarked on a nearly 6,000-mile journey in order to remove the symbol of their love from the tourist attraction.

What's more, she documented the entire trip via a hilarious TikTok video. The video has gained traction on the internet and has since gone viral. Beyond being entertaining, it's also incredibly relatable to others. After all, who hasn't wanted to scrub clean any trace of their ex once they've broken up?! Let's take a look at the lengths to which Yeung went on her journey.

Kassie Yeung, the TikToker behind the viral video, got the idea to remove the love lock she'd put on the N Seoul Tower, commonly known as the Namsan Tower, back in 2019 with her ex-boyfriend now that they're no longer a couple. Not only would she remove the lock, but she wanted to create relatable content for her followers, so she documented her entire journey from Los Angeles in a hilarious video.

It begins with Yeung on a plane to Seoul while an automated voiceover narrates the journey. It starts with, "I am one petty MF IDC what anyone says." After stepping out of the airport, Yeung heads straight to a hardware store and purchases a pair of bolt cutters. As she continues toward the Namsan Tower, she's holding out the pair of bolt cutters in front of the camera, while the audio says, "Snip snip, time to snip."

It's already a hilarious premise, but soon the Namsan Tower is in sight. The audio narrates her mission explaining that she's "almost there." She eventually takes the cart up to the top of the tower and then begins her search to find her exact lock among an endless sea of others. At one point she's moving the cutters in an impatient manner, but then in an instant (thanks to the magic of editing), Yeung is literally jumping for joy with the lock in her hand. Her mission is completed and she can finally rest knowing that the symbol of her former love is no more.

The video is incredibly entertaining as it's one part comedy, one part drama, and one part mystery thriller. Her followers are kept on their toes the whole time, unsure if she'll actually succeed in what she set out to do.

But despite posting all the details of her journey, Yeung had no idea that the video would become as viral as it did, having now been viewed over 4.5 million times. She spoke to Insider, telling them she wanted to remove the lock out of "pettiness," but ultimately it was the relatability that others would have with her situation that spurred her on:

"It is relevant in the sense that everyone goes through relationships, breakups, and possibly having love locks with ex-lovers."

Originally put there in the summer of 2019, Yeung returned nearly two years later to remove it in spring 2021. She revealed to Insider that it took about 30 minutes to find the exact lock before she could cut it off. And despite the far-fetched premise of traveling halfway across the world to remove the lock, Yeung didn't just travel to Korea for that sole purpose. Heading there to pursue a career as a backup dancer, she remembered the lock that she'd left there with her ex and planned to take a detour to retrieve it.

In the eyes of many, Yeung is a trailblazer, with many applauding her for her commitment to the task at hand. And perhaps she's even started a trend, as one commenter explained they'd love to retrieve a lock they left in Paris with their ex. The Pont des Art bridge in Paris was a popular location for couples to leave love locks until 2015 when the city removed them all in order to preserve the bridge.

What do you think about Kassie Yeung's nearly 6,000-mile journey to remove the love lock from her previous relationship? Have you ever done anything as drastic to signal the end of a relationship? If you think someone will relate to this then be sure to pass it on to them!
