Three Years Following His Massive Stroke Randy Travis Returns To Perform 'Amazing Grace' Like Only He Can

Three years after country music singer and performer Randy Travis had a massive stroke, which almost ended his life, he returned to the Grand Ole Opry stage. His 2016 performance was joined with other well-known artists to pay tribute to country music legend — the late, great George Jones — while he sang the famous classic, Amazing Grace.

The classic gospel piece was fitting for Travis as his recovery and ability to sing and play guitar spellbound the audience as everyone listened in silence and amazement. It indeed was a grace for the audience to see him on stage again. The entire song was captured on film as he sat alone on a barstool while picking and singing almost as though nothing happened to him.

As the blue and purple lights lit up the background behind Travis, the spotlight illuminated him while he picked an old guitar and sang in his deep bellow voice. The silence in the crowd was almost eerie as it took everyone back in time to when Travis was still performing.

Travis' deep tone and slow picking were played out as only the singer knew how to. Nothing but respect came out of the pure sound and performance as there was no doubt in the building that Randy Travis still has what it takes to leave the crowd in awe. Those who attended received a heartfelt treat as Travis paid his tribute to the "Possum" George Jones.

George Jones was an inspiration to the pure heart and soul of country music singers who also showed up to pay their respects and perform as a tribute. A few of the other artists who showed up to play on the Grand Ole Opry stage were Travis Tritt, Vince Gill and Alan Jackson. All of which were the biggest fans and good friends of George Jones.

Three years before the tribute, Randy Travis almost passed away after suffering a massive stroke. Travis' family, friends and fans did not know what to expect when they heard the news. They knew the future was going to be a long hard road to recovery, and no one was really sure of what Travis' future might hold. Randy's wife Mary told of how it was the prayers, love and support from the fans, which got them through.

Mary Travis stated in an interview with Billboard, while fighting back the tears: "We’re blessed. We’re happy to be where we are. We don’t know what God has in store for us at the end of this recovery. Right now, we’re just thankful to be where we are, and we’re singing a different song. We’re happy to serve a purpose wherever there is a purpose for us to serve. Of course, one day, he would love to be back up on that stage. Right now, we’re just enjoying life, and are very blessed to be where we are."

Fans appreciated seeing Randy Travis on stage three years after he had a stroke. There is no doubt that the Possum was smiling down on Travis as he came back from a hard road.

Things are uncertain as Randy and his wife Mary are taking one day at a time and popping up in the music scene here and there; the fans will soak in every minute they can get with him on stage.
