In a recent statement made to the press, Meghan Markle’s outspoken father Thomas expressed his disappointment about his daughter and son-in-law’s decision to step back as senior royal family members.

Taking to their official Instagram account, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex posted a statement Wednesday announcing they “intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and “work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

The couple added that they will be splitting their time between the Prince’s native United Kingdom and North America and will be announcing the launch of their new charitable entity in the near future.

In light of the bombshell announcement, US Weekly caught up with Thomas Markle who stated, “I’ll just simply say I’m disappointed."

His disappointment comes as a surprise as ET reports that he had made several negative statements towards the royal family in interviews over the years. Meghan has reportedly felt "betrayed" from these interviews and his statements have put a strain on their relationship.

In fact, Thomas and his daughter have not been on speaking terms after he staged paparazzi photos of himself in the days leading up to her wedding according to Fox News. The retired lighting designer has also never met his grandson baby Archie since he was born in May 2019. It seems that Harry and Meghan have plenty to contend with moving forward, as they consider their families and their futures.
