This Viral Photo Of A Dad With His Screaming Toddler Teaches Us A Lot About Parenting

Kids seem to have an innate gift at picking the absolute worst times to have a meltdown, just ask anyone who has kids. Whether it's in a movie theater, grocery store, airplane, or any other highly-trafficked public space, kids can sense the best places to cry to get the most attention. Parents are mortified, but they really shouldn't feel embarrassed. Kids need to let out steam and there's nothing we can do to prevent that.

"Jane the Virgin" actor Justin Baldoni recently took the internet by storm by sharing a photo of his daughter accompanied by a wise caption. His wife, Emily, was the one who snapped this relatable picture during a family outing to Whole Foods. In the photo, you can see a very calm Baldoni smirking at his daughter who is curled on the floor in the middle of a loud temper tantrum.

Baldoni isn't embarrassed and clearly knows how to find the humor in this situation that can make plenty of people feel awkward.

"My dad always let me feel what I needed to feel."

Even if it was in public and embarrassing," Baldoni recalls. "Our children are learning and processing so much information and they don't know what to do with all of these new feelings that come up. I try to remember to make sure my daughter knows it's OK that she feels deeply," he shares. He goes on to urge parents not to feel embarrassed when their kids throw a fit in public and that we should shift that patience and kindness onto ourselves sometimes, too.

"If we got out everything we were feeling and allowed ourselves to throw tantrums and cry when we felt the need to then maybe we'd could also let ourselves feel more joy and happiness. And that is something this world could definitely use a little more of."

Being a kid is a lot more scary and challenging than we seem to remember. Crying is just a natural coping mechanism for all the new stimuli children are trying to make sense of and being a good parent means letting your children work through their problems and grow. Encouraging them to bury these emotions can lead to lifelong emotional traumas that they can't solve on their own. So go on, don't be afraid to take your children out into the world. You may get a few stares, but you'll be helping your child be an emotionally healthy and independent person.
