This Unique Rendition Of "Hallelujah" By Jason Castro Has Everyone's Eyes Watering

Dec 13, 2018 by apost team

Like many talented people, Jason Castro faced struggles in his life offstage. He gives all the credit to God for his overcoming of that darkness. Today, Jason speaks (and sings) of his faith.

To honor God, Jason has presented the world with a beautiful performance of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, in which the strength of his faith is channeled through every word he sings.

Everyone has heard a cover of Hallelujah at some point in their lives, but its creator is an underappreciated artist today. This may be because the rest of his discography isn't quite as immediate as this most famous song. Originally a poet, Leonard decided to become a musician around the age of 30.

His somber lullabies and patient meditations would gain him a cult following throughout his career; it was the interference of John Cale (of Velvet Underground fame) in the production of Hallelujah that catapulted the song into universal acclaim.

Having been a fan of Mr. Cohen's poetry for some time, John Cale wished to collaborate. Leonard sent him 15 verses, of which he picked his favorites to constitute Hallelujah.

John Cale's reputation is mostly that of an experimental composer. He brought unprecedented musical detail to Cohen's song, which is one of the reasons Jason felt compelled to cover it. And, of course, the songs spiritual themes communicate the ecstasy of Jason's relationship with God.
