Teachers find themselves in the news a lot. While some outlets like to report on a few bad apples, most stories involving teachers are of the "feel good" variety. A teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico has a tale that should make people feel good. Sonya Romera goes far beyond the proverbial extra mile for her students.

At the beginning of the day, she asks the young ones if they have enough food to eat and clothes to wear. The kind-hearted gesture shouldn't be overlooked. Her morning inquiry shows she does worry about the health and welfare of those in her care.

The tale of Sonya Romera eventually caught the attention of talk show legend Ellen DeGeneres. Interested in telling the world about such a kind teacher, Ellen chose to book Sonya on her daytime show.

Ellen didn't book the teacher as a regular guest though. Sonya simply joined the rest of the live studio audience to watch the show.

At one point during the show, Ellen acknowledged Sonya's presence in the audience. The host asked Sonya to come on stage. In front of millions of viewers, Ellen thanked Sonya for spending her own money on food and toiletries for needy kids.

Ellen revealed Sonya takes in needy students. Two of her former students are now her foster children.

A shocked Sondra viewed a video featuring her co-workers and students. Both groups praised and thanked the dedicated educator. The exchange became emotional at several points throughout the interview. At one point, Ellen even burst into tears.

"Great, now I'm crying!"

And then the revelation of two unexpected gifts followed. The Target retail store gave Sonya a $10,000 gift certificate along with an additional $10,000 gift certificate in the name of her elementary school.

The joyous tale of Sondra Romero's good heart should inspire many. Show everyone good teachers and people exist. Let them know about what this teacher is doing.
