Barack and Michelle Obama are obviously no longer in the White House. However, the two are still thought to be an amazing example of a “power couple.” Their beautiful story began 30 years ago. It is amazing to see that it is still going strong.

The former President of the United States was in law school in 1989 as a first-year law student. It was there that Barack would meet the woman of his dreams. She changed his life for sure.

Barack and Michelle sat down for an interview with Oprah Magazine to talk about their story. They talked candidly about their first date, saying they were definitely blessed by “Lady Lucky.”

Barack had taken a summer job with the Chicago law firm Sidney & Austin. Michelle already worked there as an advisor. She was given the job of showing him around.

Barack mentioned that he was immediately struck by her height and beauty. On the other hand, Michelle did not think much of him in the beginning. She wasn’t sure about his brilliance and sharp image. She told the magazine interviewer that she did not think of him as someone she would want to date. Not only was she supposed to be his mentor, but she had recently sworn off dating. She had decided to put work ahead of relationships.

Eventually, Michelle began to warm up to Barack. He even felt comfortable enough around her to ask her out on a date. But she refused over and over because she said it would not be appropriate.

Barack told her he would quit his job to get her to date him. That was the final push Michele needed. The pair went for their first date at a nearby Baskin-Robbins. They sat on the curb eating their ice cream, and that is exactly where the two had their first kiss.

You know the rest! The two are now celebrating their 26th wedding anniversary together. You can also read more about their wonderful story in Michelle’s’ most recent book, “Becoming.” The best-seller was released on November 13, 2018. Her memoir sold 1.4 million copies in the first seven days it was on the market. That number surpassed any other memoirs that had been written by other First Ladies.
