This Study Says Eating Pizza Could Actually Help You Lose That Extra 10 Pounds

Jun 11, 2018 by apost team

Pepperoni lovers, rejoice! The good news is, eating pizza could actually help you lose weight! Seems impossible, right? We'll not go so far as to say that a hot, gooey slice of pie has now replaced salad as a diet staple for success in weight maintenance, but a recent study has now shown that allowing yourself certain indulgences while counting calories is the key to long-term weight loss success and weight management.

The Proof Is In The Pie

According to a recent study done by Men's Health, diet participants who chose to have a day of indulgence when they allowed themselves to eat what they wanted had far more success sticking to a diet plan during the week. A little indulgence from time to time never hurt anyone, and those who had something to look forward to, like a special meal or a decadent treat were satisfied and ready to continue on their weight loss journey the next day.

Designating a special day has mental health implications as well; in cases of extreme deprivation, it was found that dieters who devoted themselves to extreme measures for extended periods of time were far more likely to abandon their weight loss efforts than ones who realized the value of an occasional treat from time to time.

The key to successful rule breaking is to plan it out as much as possible. Giving in to "spur of the moment" urges might have you feeling guilty, whereas sticking to your schedule of restriction vs. indulgence gives you a sense of control and success over sticking to your plan.

The Light At The End Of The Tunnel

There's no denying that sticking to a healthy lifestyle in today's fast-paced world is difficult. The light at the end of the tunnel is the reward of a cheesy slice of goodness at the end of each week. Or two. Or three. Just make sure you get back on the straight and narrow the following day.

Not Yet A Believer?

One New York chef boasted an impressive 100-pound weight loss by eating---guess what----pizza for lunch every day! While Chef Cozzolino admits that no one will likely lose weight consuming ingredients on an extra large sausage, bacon, and cheese on a daily basis, swapping out unhealthy ingredients for fresh, local flavors might satisfy the most stubborn pizza aficionado.

He replaced his usual greasy concoction with a lovely margherita pizza with fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomato on a homemade crust, and that was satisfaction enough. He is 100 pounds down now and embracing his newfound energy level that allows him to play with his children once more.

Reheat Those Leftover Slices

As we don't endorse that your cheat day includes an entire pie, you might consider using your stovetop to reheat those delicious slices. Microwaving may be fast, but the soggy results are often disappointing and unsatisfying. Reheating on the stovetop, crust side down will allow the crust to crisp up again like new.

Covering the pan while reheating will melt the cheese and heat other ingredients so that it looks and tastes like it came right out of the wood fire oven. Eating your "cheat" treats should be a satisfying experience all the way around, so you don't feel that you've cheated yourself out of a delicious snack.

Homemade Is Best

While store-bought pies are delicious, you never quite know what goes into making them. If you truly want to master what you put in your body, you might consider making your own from scratch. Many people balk at the idea of putting together a pie at home, because that includes creating a homemade crust as well. Here is a simple recipe you can use to make delicious crust at home with minimal time and only a few ingredients:

The Perfect Pizza Crust

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour

Mix ingredients in a large bowl and turn out onto a floured board. Knead for 8-10 minutes adding additional flour if it gets too sticky. Roll out in a circular shape, brush with olive oil and bakc at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Enjoy adding your favorite decadent and delicious toppings.

Bon Apetit!
