You'll spend the most time in the bathroom each morning when you prepare to start the day, from showering to brushing your teeth to drying your hair to putting on makeup. When a tough day is finally over, your bathroom is where you can relax and soak in a bubble bath while you process everything that's happened.

This is the main reason why you should take the time and energy to make sure that your bathroom has been organized and cleaned properly. It's a great feeling to have a clean bathroom. One great habit to get into is wiping down the sink along with other potentially grimy areas a few times a week. Once a week, you should do a real washing of these particular surfaces with disinfectant and cleaner. This includes the toilet, tub, and shower as well.

Everybody knows that a great deal of harmful germs might make their home in your bathroom. One of these germs is the staph bacteria, which might even cause you to be exposed to antibiotic-resistant MRSA staph. Nobody ever wants to be infected by a pathogen like this. It's vitally important that your entire bathroom is kept sparkling clean. If you don't have the time to do a top-to-bottom clean every week, you should at least make sure you focus your attentions on the shower.

There are about a million cleaning products you can buy in the store. They will work for your purposes, but they aren't always great for your lungs or skin. Certain cleaners contain chemicals that have been linked to terrible long-term health effects. Recent studies from the American Thoracic Society's American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine show that there's actually a strong correlation between cleaning products and deteriorating lungs. The chemicals in the cleaners can cause your lungs to deteriorate. People who employed the regular use of cleaning products with chemicals were shown to have lungs that were similar to a person who smoked 20 cigarettes every day for years.

This study is concerning. The natural response is to find an alternative to your harsh cleaning products. However, you need to take into account a number of different factors. The first and most important is: Will it work? Your homemade cleaning solution might help your lung function, but if it doesn't get rid of harmful germs, you might not be around long enough to appreciate those swimmer's lungs.

There does seem to be one DIY solution that both experts and run-of-the-mill DIYers swear by. And there's a good chance that everything involved in the concoction can be found inside your pantry. Making it is simple, and it also works wonders to remove scum and soap stains from your shower tiles and tub.

Many people believe that the tub and shower are the hardest areas of the bathroom to clean. You find yourself using up a great deal of cleaning product and breaking a sweat as you scrub. It's hard to make them look good as new.

This often occurs because of the water type you're using. If hard water is allowed to combine with body wash, shampoo, or soap, it might create a tough layer of scum that's difficult to get rid of.

Instead of throwing money down the drain -- literally -- by investing in chemical-drenched cleaning products, try this homemade shower cleaner. You'll definitely notice a difference.

You'll need:

  • 1.5 cups of dishwashing liquid, with blue Dawn most highly recommended
  • 1.5 cups of white vinegar
  • 1 spray bottle
  1. First, you'll need to heat the vinegar in your microwave until it becomes hot. After that, you'll pour it into your spray bottle.
  2. Add your dishwashing liquid to your spray bottle. Place the lid on and gently shake the bottle in circles until the soap and vinegar have been mixed together well.
  3. Spray a generous helping of this mixture on your sink, toilet, tub, and shower.  Let it soak for a full 30 minutes.
  4. Scrub the area if it's needed, but if the dirt has already been lifted, simply rinse the mixture away with water.

This solution does have a strong smell because of the vinegar.  It might bother people with sensory issues.  It's best to cover your face or open your windows if the scent gets to you.

The results from using this method are instantaneous and incredible. You'll get your bathroom as close to new-looking as it's been in years.

What kind of results did you get from using this DIY solution? Is it better than the cleaners you buy at the store? And do you have any other DIY cleaner tips that work for you?
