This School Replaced Detention With Meditation And The Results Are Unbelievable

Kids can be a bit of a headache sometimes. When they are at home, they scream and shout when they don't get their way. At school, they tend to be a bit disciplined because the teachers are a bit strict with them. However, every once in a while, they also misbehave at school, and the teachers are forced to give them a timeout, detention or suspension. However, there's one elementary school that does things a bit differently, and it works for them.
Students at Robert W. Coleman elementary don't get detention after they misbehave. The teachers give them something a bit different. Believe it or not, the students have to meditate as a punishment.
There is a 'mindful room' that the kids are sent to when they misbehave. They have to sit there and think about what they have done. They sit in silence and meditate as per the coordinator's instructions. Interestingly, the kids are able to relax their minds after the meditation session and be more disciplined.
Meditation teaches them to control their impulses and act as responsible human beings.

In fact, the number of discipline cases has reduced ever since the school began implementing the program. The administration is especially grateful to the Holistic Life Foundation that has been helpful in helping the school to design the program.
If you thought that Robert W. Coleman was the only school benefiting from such a program, think again. There's another non profit known as Mindful Schools that's helping other schools across America use the same technique to discipline students. In the UK, there's a Mindfulness in School Project that has the same mission.
When you see something that has been used for years doesn't produce satisfactory results, try something new.
For years, teachers have been disciplining children by giving them detentions or suspensions. Although some of them learn from their mistakes and change for the better, others remain the same. They become so used to detention that they no longer fear it. Currently, some schools are trying meditation, and it's showing a nearly 100 percent success rate.
Perhaps it's time that all schools adapted this method.
