Dining out with young children can certainly present challenges. One restaurant in Monterrey, California is taking matters into their own hands and it is raising eyebrows everywhere.

The Old Fisherman's Grotto is catching flack for a posted sign that reiterates the restaurant's policy on children. Although kids are allowed in the restaurant, it does not allow for strollers, high chairs, or booster seats.

The sign also specifically states that crying children or those that are distracting to other diners are not allowed in the dining room.

While the rule was made way back in 2011, it is only recently that the sign went viral and began generating controversy.

The policy about crying children was set in place so that other diners could eat their meal in peace without the worry of distracting noises.

The restaurant said that the policy of no strollers, high chairs, or boosters came later. Because the dining space of the restaurant is small, the extra equipment was posing a safety issue because they were crowding the aisles and making it difficult for staff and other diners to pass through.

While some people feel as if the policies are discriminatory, others welcome the rules that enable a peaceful dining experience.

The restaurant has clearly stated that it still welcomes families with young children into its doors. It merely needs them to abide by the rules set forth by management.
