This Officer Would Have Never Heard The Woman Scream If He Hadn’t Been Driving with Windows Down

As daily routines become second-nature, many people don't think about the details of their habits and actions. Nobody thinks twice about how their hair is parted or the technique being used to brush their teeth.

As long as their goals are accomplished, the method used goes largely unnoticed. In other words, the small details and specifics of daily life don't seem very important.

This may be true a majority of the time, but certainly not always. For one Delaware County officer, the small decisions he made during a normal patrol made all the difference in a woman's life. Lower Chichester Officer Tim McBride peruses his normal patrol route just like any other dedicated police officer. However, he conducts his patrols a bit different than most. According to WXTF, Officer McBride drives with the windows down when possible.

At first, this may seem like an insignificant detail that will do little more than give the officer a bad hair day. However, this small choice made the difference in the life of one local woman.

On October 4th, McBride was pulling out of a parking lot when he heard a woman scream. If the window's of his patrol car wouldn't have been down, Officer McBride may not have heard the scream. He wouldn't have been able to respond to the distress as quickly as he did.

The screams heard by Officer McBride were those of a woman being assaulted by man called Richard Simmons. The local newspaper provided some eye-opening background information on this particular criminal.

Simmons was already a suspect in a robbery that occurred in Linwood, New Jersey on October 2nd. Police were unable to arrest the suspect as he escaped to Delaware by train.

The screaming that Officer McBride heard was coming from a woman in her 50's who was working at the counter of a nearby business. She told authorities that the criminal had frequented the business often and typically lingered around while she was closing the store.

This time, Simmons tried to stop the victim from leaving. When she tried to leave, Simmons tackled her. Simmons reportedly said, "You aren't going anywhere".

The woman began screaming and Office McBride fortunately heard the screams. He followed the sound and entered the business in time to stop the assault. In an affidavit, Officer McBride described the encounter. He drew his gun on the assailant and ordered him to get up.

McBride switched to his Taser as the criminal approached the officer. The Taser was "deployed" and the criminal hit the floor. McBride struggled with a backup officer to handcuff the aggressive assailant.

Thomas Gaspari, the local Police Chief, commented on McBride's heroic actions calling them "one of the best pieces of police work that I have seen", according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

Gaspari continued to praise McBride for preventing serious injury and awful crimes that may have occurred. Indeed, it was Officer McBride's heroic actions and determination that saved the victim.

McBride single-handedly took down a vicious perpetrator. A single decision to ride with his patrol car window's down helped to save an innocent victim. If Officer McBride had had his windows up, he might not have heard the screams.

The officer was in the right place at the right time in order to help protect a woman from an attacker. Officer McBride is appropriately being heralded as a hero in his local town. Check out this video about him:
