This Mom Came Up With A Great Way To Explain 'Santa' To Your Growing Kids

Nov 03, 2017 by apost team

This brilliant little trick is something that will help your kids learn the basic truth about Santa by becoming a Santa for someone else. This helps the child when they first start to suspect that Santa might not actually be a physical being. This usually happens between ages 6 and 8, but every child is different. With the time comes, take them somewhere for a meal or a treat and have a conversation with them.

Makes points to your child about how they've grown both physically and in their heart. You can do this by reminiscing about times your child did something nice for someone else. Continue to praise them for their efforts to be considerate and kind, then tell them you think it's time they became a Santa for someone else.

You can explain to your child that any Santa they see out in the world is merely a person dressed like him, and your child might have already figured that out on their own. Perhaps a friend at school told them Santa isn't is real. Explain to them that those children simply aren't ready to be Santa themselves, but that THEY are ready.

Ask them to explain what they know about Santa to you. Ask them why Santa does those things. They might answer that he gets milk and cookies at each house, but lead them to continue on to the good feelings you get when doing something good.

At this point, you'll tell them it's their turn to be Santa. Have them pick someone they know, and have them find out what that person needs. Then have the child deliver the gift without being seen or taking credit. The point is to give unselfishly.

After the deed is done, be sure to reiterate that no one can find out the gift came from your child, or else they won't be a Santa. Once they get used to the idea year after year, it will become as much fun for them to give as it once was to receive. The great thing about this idea is that it works just as well if you have several kids. Make sure the oldest knows not to ruin it for the younger ones before you decide it's time to bring the next oldest into the Santa circle.
