This Is Why Keanu Reeves Has Always Been The Internet's One True Soul Mate

Jun 27, 2019 by apost team

Have you heard that Keanu Reeves is the internet’s new boyfriend? While Reeves is a mega movie star with over 100 film credits and a career spanning some three decades, it’s a well-known fact that the down to earth celebrity prefers the corner to the spotlight in his personal life. As if fans needed another reason to call him Baby, right? Yet, the crazy kindnesses he shows to everyone crossing his path continually makes pictures, videos, and memes of him go viral.

It’s The Year Of Keanussance

This is a busy summer for Keanu Reeves, and social media is exploding with Keanussance. John Wick 3 is enjoying the same cult fandom as its predecessors. He’s made a cameo as a caricature of himself in the Netflix movie Always Be My Maybe. He’s the new macho action figure, Duke Caboom, in the upcoming Toy Story sequel. He’s even the face and voice of a new game called Cyberpunk 2077.

Even Chris Evans is drinking the Keanussance juice. And, according to CEO of Marvel Studios, Keven Feige, the studio has unsuccessfully courted Reeves for almost every film they’ve made.

His professional endeavors certainly merit his own era title, but it’s the fan’s love for the quirky, kind, humble gentleman Reeves is in real life that’s earned him his status as the Internet’s boyfriend. Even his confused and humble response to learning about his new status from People Magazine is all the more reason to love him.

Let’s take a look at some of Reeve’s best and most candid moments as what’s clearly his best role yet - himself.

Keanu Just Being Keanu

1. He Gets Sad

“Sad Keanu” turned into a viral Reddit, Twitter, and Facebook meme and gif frenzy after the star was pictured by paparazzi glumly eating a sandwich on a New York park bench back in 2010. The image seemed to resonate with people. In fact, it sparked its own Facebook movement when over 14,000 Facebookers declared June 15th “Cheer Up Keanu Day.” It speaks for itself that it’s been almost a decade and CUKD tweets still go out each June.

2. He Takes The Subway

As if straight out of a romance flick, we have the guy who could probably buy his own train-riding public transportation like any other everyday guy. But, that’s not the punchline of the story. Back in 2011, Reeves was caught on video giving up his seat for a lady with a large bag. Afterward, he stands there completely oblivious to the media frenzy his small act of kindness was about to cause.

3. He Saves Stranded Airplane Passenger

One of Reeves most recent meme-worthy real life adventures involved a flight from San Francisco to Los Angeles. He and the other passengers found themselves stranded in Bakersfield after the flight made an unexpected landing.

The mega star could’ve easily flipped the bill for a private plane, car, or even Uber to come to his rescue. Instead, he left no Bill behind in this adventure. He organized a shuttle for a road trip to get him and all his fellow passengers back to LA. The gem of this story is that he even entertained their stress away with Bakersfield facts and music along the way.

4. He Doesn’t EVER Play His Star Card

This man is an enigma. Even the best of Hollywood pulls out their star card sometimes, right? Well, Reeves doesn’t do it even at his own wrap party. Back in 2014, Page Six reported that Reeves waited in line for 20 minutes to get into his own wrap party for Daughter of God. So, what does he do when he finally gets in? Well, this wouldn’t be a Keanu day if he didn’t Matrix someone’s night better. So, he picks up a lost credit card on the ground and takes the time to give it to DJ booth for safekeeping.

5. He Goes Out Of His Way For Fans

Despite being a very private person, there are a plethora of fan stories out there showing Reeves just never snubs his fans. One of the most interesting comes from James Dator on Twitter. He says he was 16 and working at a movie theater. He offered Reeves his employee discount so that he’d end up with the actor’s signature on the receipt. A confused Keanu declines the offer.

A few minutes later, Reeves returns holding ice cream in one hand and the receipt with his signature in the other. Dator is shocked as he watches Reeves trash the ice cream and proceed to his movie. Apparently, the star had an epiphany and bought the ice cream just so he could come back with an autograph.

6. He Returns Compliments

At the recent 2019 E3 conference, an adoring fan yelled out that the star was breathtaking. He responded by telling the crowd that it was them who were breathtaking. How’s that for meme-worthy?

7. His Vanity Projects Aren’t So Vain

Fans have shared their encounters with Reeves at bookstores. So, we know his love of fiction and sudoku puzzles, and it wasn’t surprising when Reeves teamed up with visual artist Alexandra Grant for a couple of book projects.

Books and celebs come a dime a dozen, but not many care so much about getting the little guy published. Reeves again teamed up with Grant to create X Artists’ Books, a small press focused on publishing the esoteric titles larger prints won’t touch.

8. He’s The Muse For A Rap Son

Thanks to Netflix’s Always Be My Maybe, we have an array of new Keanu memes and gifs hitting the internet, including an Ali Wong kiss and wind-blown hair. The fan-favorite comes from the movie’s “I punched Keanu Reeves” rap song, which is attributed to a scene where the character Reeves plays punches a caricature of himself. The resulting memes are going viral.

9. He Gives Candid Answers To Even The Tough Question

When Stephen Colbert asked Reeves what he thought happened when we die, Reeves answer wasn’t some obscure loop around the question. He simply replied that he knows loved ones miss us. It was likely a question that hit close to home for Reeves, too.

His personal life has involved one tragedy after another, starting with being raised by a nomadic single mom and struggling with dyslexia spanning to the deaths of his father, friends, a stillborn child, and the love of his life. Yet, Reeves seems more enlightened than embittered.
