If you go to Germany, you might want to stay in a hotel that is operated by people who have disabilities.

The owner of the hotel has a heart for helping others and knows that even those who have health issues need to be able to support themselves in some way.

When the parents of eight children with various disabilities decided to come up with a way to provide for their children, they didn't think that a hotel would be the answer. The Stadthaus Hotel was opened in 1995 and is still going strong today.

There were only 11 beds to begin with and seven rooms for guests. Since the parents were just getting started in the business world, they wanted to start on the small scale of operating a hotel just in case it wasn't a success.

The parents paid for the hotel on their own along with donations that they received and a few subsidies.

Classes are taught so that people who are disabled can learn how to do almost everything in the hotel. They learn how to clean the rooms and help in the dining area. A few years after the hotel opened, there were a few issues that the parents ran into that they eventually got straightened out.

After resolving their fixed costs by adding more rooms and a bar area, the hotel started thriving once again. Some of the employees of the hotel live in an apartment area upstairs.

You may watch a short documentary about the Stadthaus's story by the Deutsche Welle in the video below:
