This Father Took Matters Into His Own Hands When Stranger Yells At Him For Carrying His Daughter

Every person you see on the street is fighting their own demons. It’s often quite easy to make a snap judgment when you spot someone doing something you would normally disagree with, but you have to remember that you don’t know all of the details of their lives. Just ask Brent Gehring, a father of three, who shared a recent experience he had with his little girl.

Emma, Brent’s little 6-year-old girl, has been fighting brain cancer for the last few years. While Emma is truly a fighter, after chemotherapy and other cancer treatments, she cannot walk on her own. She has to use a walker to get around.

Brent picked Emma up in his arms one day to help her cross the street while on a family trip to Boston, Massachusetts. A stranger who was passing by decided to make a hateful remark to father.

He yelled at the group, “What the F**k?” and “Make her walk.” He went on to yell that this is what's wrong with kids today.

Brent had the same reaction most of us would have if faced with this problem- to lash out at the stranger and tell him off. Yet he was able to calm down and approach the man to explain to him the truth.

Brent said he had a choice to make. Should he scream at the man?

"Can I make myself feel better by screaming at him or can I teach him something about life?"

After getting inches away from his face, he took the high road and explained to the man that his daughter cannot walk due to her illness. He told him that he was happy to be able to care for her and carry her whenever she needed him to because of all of the wonderful things she has taught him over the years.

He ended his speech by telling the man not to address her so disrespectfully.

Brent did not say exactly how the man reacted, except that both men ended up crying next to each other by the road. The stranger was given another look at himself and hopefully, he left knowing he should never judge someone else without having all of the facts about the situation.

We all need that kind of reminder.

Brent also said that we all have the choice to make another person’s day better or worse. We have to remember that we choose the feelings we give out. Will you make someone happy today? Or will you try to make them feel worse?

Brent doesn’t want people to pity his daughter.

He simply asks that you think before you speak and that you don’t judge others before knowing their entire situation.

Emma is facing another round of chemotherapy very soon. We want to wish her the very best in life!
