Millions of Americans struggled to get enough sleep each night. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one out of five people has some type of sleep disorder or sleep deprivation. Unfortunately, the majority of us do not get the seven to eight hours of sleep that doctors recommend.

When you suffer from insomnia, it seems like nothing seems to help. You quit drinking coffee and tea, but you still cannot fall asleep. Some people give up medications or try sleeping pills to fall asleep at night. When nothing seems to work, it can be incredibly frustrating. Instead of dreaming peacefully, you are left staring at the ceiling as you grow increasingly annoyed.

Most people are already aware of the health benefits of bananas. They are rich in potassium, which is good for your heart and muscles. It turns out that this amazing fruit is also filled with magnesium. Your body normally uses magnesium to regulate its circadian rhythms. These rhythms are basically how your body decides when to go to sleep and when to wake up.

Interestingly, the banana peel is even higher in both of these minerals than the actual banana. The only problem is that no one wants to eat a tough peel. Luckily, you can still enjoy all of these minerals without having to gnaw on a banana peel.

Once you start drinking banana tea, you will see how quickly it helps you sleep. This option is far better than resorting to sleeping pills. While sleeping pills make you feel terrible the next day, banana tea will leave you feeling great.

Often, people resort to sleeping pills like Ambien or melatonin supplements when they cannot sleep. This might help to fight insomnia, but the medication can cause other problems. Side effects of sleep medication include dizziness, fatigue, anxiety and nausea. Over time, you can end up developing a dependency or addiction to the medication.

Before you resort to sleeping pills, try out this simple recipe. Stick to organic bananas because chemicals and pesticides can latch onto the peel. For the best results, make sure to drink this tea within an hour of going to bed.

Ingredients

1 organic banana
A dash of cinnamon
A small pot of water

1. You need just enough water to make a regular-sized mug of tea. Put this water into the pot and bring it to a boil.
2. Cut both ends off of the banana. Put the unpeeled fruit into the boiling pot of water.
3. Boil the mixture for 10 minutes. Use a strainer or a colander to pour the tea into your mug.
4. Add a dash of cinnamon for flavor. Now, sit back and enjoy your tea.
