This Dancing Duo Won First Place With Their Modern Swing Dance Performance Pulling Off Some Unconventional Moves

Even though the dancing duet composed of Ben Morris and Jennifer DeLuca came from opposite sides of the country, they sure know how to come together to perform an outstanding routine! They compete together in swing dance competitions, and they’re amazing at what they do.

When they came out to perform at the Capital Swing Dancers convention held during Presidents Day weekend, they took a modern spin on the classic type of dance by not incorporating any traditional swing-style moves. Even though the crowd was confused, the judges were simply amazed! Their act of rebellion paid off because of the opportunity they took to put a fresh spin on an old classic dance style. Their dance was more of a high-energy rhythmic boogie dancing, but the judges loved it!

Their dance was so amazing that it left the crowd and judges more open-minded about what a swing style routine can look like. Even their attire wasn’t the norm for the occasion! Jennifer’s top was rather releasing, showing her undergarments and bedazzled in metal studs.

Forget their attire, however, because their dance routine was what really shocked everyone in the room!

They danced to a George Thorogood song, flawlessly nailing the choreography and shocking even the most skeptical of judges. Although they weren't swing dancing in the traditional sense, they sure do know how to swing their bodies around! At one point, Jennifer strikes a pose and Ben uses her arm as a pretend microphone! It’s too adorable for words.

Traditional swing dancing is a broad category, but often features lifts, spins and flips into the air by a pair of partners. The 1920s were when this type of dancing became popularized by jazz music. Much of this dancing has died off since the 1940s, but people still keep it alive today and put their own spins on it just like Jennifer and Ben did!

Since trends always repeat themselves, you can be sure that swing dancing is coming back in full effect to become mainstream again!

With artists like these two dancers showing us how unique and modern you can make the swing dance, we’re sure more people will follow suit by putting their style into the traditional form of dance. What do you think about the fantastic performance?
