This Couple Is Contemplating Getting Divorced In Order To Afford Their Daughter's Healthcare Costs

The economic crisis is hitting hard on literally everyone. America in particular, the economic conditions have forced a couple to file for a divorce contrary to their desire to meet their daughter’s medical bills.

Jake and Maria Grey have two children. One of the two daughters is a six-year-old named Brighton who struggles from a rare hereditary disorder known as the Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome. The condition forces Brighton to remain in the same state as that of a newborn which makes her delicate.

She demands 24/7 specialized care that forces the family to dig into their pockets for at least $15000 annually to cater for the medical costs, the couple told Today

The amounts are hefty to any middle-income earning family. In order to keep the loving daughter alive, the Greys are considering a divorce.

Why would a divorce ease the issue at hand?

This question has triggered a lot of emotions after hearing the Greys explain their situation. A divorce should help the six-year-old girl qualify for Medicaid. With a Medicaid plan, Brighton would receive medical attention for less money.

Jake is an army veteran securing private insurance for his family. Nonetheless, even without factoring in Brighton’s escalated medical costs, other bills keep pressing them. It takes a man a lot of courage to speak out about financial problems.

Jake spoke to Today explaining why they had arrived at the astonishing decision of filing for a divorce when they most needed each other. Jake said that it was their last surviving option at keeping Brighton alive.

With a divorce, it would make Maria a single and unemployed mother to a sickly child. According to the law, the mother of two has a more precise shot at qualifying for Medicaid and helping Brighton access her medical care at a cheaper rate.

"We shouldn't have to make that sacrifice to get our child Medicaid," the couple told Today.

The couple is willing to do all that it takes to keep their daughter in a healthy condition even if it means bringing their marriage on paper to an end.

Perhaps spreading this story could help Jake and Maria get the recognition they deserve for being strong parents to their children. Pass this along to your friends and family and keep this family in your prayers.
