This Couple Has Rescued More Than 300 Senior Shelter Dogs To Honor The Memory Of Their Departed Pup

Chris and Mariesa Hughes knew they had to help Moses as soon as they saw him. As a senior dog, he'd been overlooked by adopters time and again. The Seminole County Animal Shelter didn't have room for him much longer.

The Hughes family decided to foster Moses until they could find him the perfect family of his own. It wasn't too long before they realized that they'd already found a perfect home for him – theirs! Moses fit in with their other dogs right away. He quickly endeared himself to everyone around him. There was no person he didn't like.

They spent two happy years together, but then something sad happened. Moses began to get sick. The Hughes family immediately took him to multiple veterinarians. Since they didn't have much money, they sold their hot tub to pay for testing.

An MRI revealed that Moses had a tumor on his spinal cord. The vets said that it was inoperable and that Moses had around four weeks to live.

Chris and Mariesa did everything they could to save Moses. In the end, it didn't help. Five weeks after his diagnosis, he passed away at home with his family.

They'd realized when adopting Moses that since he was an older dog, he likely wouldn't be around for long. The loss still hurt deeply. It also inspired them. According to Mariesa, Chris had the initial idea – they'd rescue senior dogs and pay for their medical expenses.

At first, the idea seemed impossible. The couple had barely managed to pay for Moses. Chris couldn't let go of the idea, though. He knew that many senior dogs lose their homes because their families can no longer pay for their medical care

Determined, the couple worked hard and created the Mr. Mo Project. The non-profit group rescues senior dogs from shelters. The group works with a large network of volunteer foster families to provide loving homes. Through donations from sponsors, they're able to cover the medical costs for the dogs. They even provide transportation when possible.

Thanks to Moses, the Hughes have saved more than 300 senior dogs.

Chris and Mariesa managed to turn something sad into something worthwhile and inspiring. Have you experienced something similar in life? If so, tell us about it and be sure to pass this story along to your friends and family!
