The passing of a president is a rare happening that brings out the best in most. This beautiful rendition of "Amazing Grace" shows the deep respect and appreciation this country music group held for the late President George H.W. Bush.

Before passing, President Bush had requested the Oak Ridge Boys to perform at his funeral service. This is a wish they gladly fulfilled for a man who had become a friend to them all.

The Oak Ridge Boys offered "Amazing Grace" to the Bush family and mourners. Joe Bonsall, Richard Sterban, William Lee Golden, and Duane Allen stood at the alter of St. Martin's Episcopal Church to give this gift.

Joe Bonsall recalled that they had first performed for the late President in October 1983. At the time, Bush was Vice President under Ronald Reagan. The performance was on the lawn of the White House. Bush was a huge fan and requested they sing a few songs for him. They performed numerous times since for him and were honored at this final request.

Bonsall recalled that the former President had thought himself a great singer. He was not. Bush's sons, George and Jeb, both laughed, nodding in agreement with Bonsall.

As President George H.W. Bush wished, the Oak Ridge Boys went on to perform the well-known hymn, "Amazing Grace". It was a resounding performance in tribute to a man they respected and loved
