You can ask any elderly person, and they'll tell you the same thing. Living a long time happens when you have a purpose. If you retire and cease to have a purpose, you'll fade from life much more quickly than if you find a reason to continue living.

Luther Yonger has found his reason to keep on living. He walks absolutely everywhere instead of driving. His daughter says that he does it to stay alive and healthy. It seems to be working pretty well for him -- the man is 98 years old, and he doesn't show any signs of slowing down.

It's a passion he's had for a good deal of time, and that's what's kept him from growing feeble as he ages. He even pokes fun at it, pointing out the differences between himself and other "old guys."

Recently, he's been walking in a new direction. Luther's wife, Waverlee, has been admitted to the hospital. She's been there for two weeks, and he has spent his day walking to the hospital and back again. Every single day.

The route winds for around six miles, and he meanders his way along an interstate. But you don't have to worry. He's not walking because he has to; he just prefers to do it. Yahoo Lifestyle says that his daughter owns a car and has offered to drive him to the hospital, but he doesn't want to wait to leave. He's too impatient to go.

Luther has been married to Waverlee for more than 50 years, and the love that he has for her is clear in his actions. She has had brain cancer for 9 years, and now she's become paralyzed. Luther visits her every day to talk to her and reminisce. He says he loves her more now than he did even when they were first getting to know each other.

This is devotion! What do you think of Luther's dedication to his wife? Let us know in the comments, and show this to someone you hope would walk 6 miles for you if you were in this situation.
