As she rose to fame in the Hollywood film industry in the ’70s, this California-born actress entered into a relationship with her director, John Derek, a man 30 years her senior.

Their relationship started in 1976, and the pair remained deeply committed for 22 years until his tragic passing in 1998 from congestive heart failure. 

Looking back on the tragedy, the actress said: “I’ve always been a fairly optimistic person, but it was a huge change, an enormous loss.” 

In an August 2020 Fox News interview, she shared: “The air just gets sucked out of the room when you lose your partner. So I wallowed in that for a while.” 

Because of her deep grief, she further explained that she wasn’t ready to seek another relationship right away, stating: “Some women want to pair up again right away. I didn’t.” 

However, five years later, love found her when she met John Corbett, the actor best known for his role as Aidan Shaw on “Sex and the City.”

This icon is none other than the ’70s sex symbol, Bo Derek, who is known for her stunning looks and impressive performance in the romantic comedy “10.”

Bo described her connection with Corbett as a source of comfort, admitting: “I became attracted to him and I still am. We take things day by day and I think we are still there.”

Thanks to a bit of matchmaking from Corbett’s friend, agent Norby Walters, the two were introduced in early 2002, just as the actor was in his prime on “Sex and the City.” 

In an interview with Today in July 2015, the couple revealed some details about their beginnings. 

The Virginia-born actor recalled needing a date for Walter’s Oscars party. His friend, eager to help, promised: “I’ll get you a date, Corbett!”

Their first encounter was memorable, and Corbett admitted that he felt “very intimidated” by Bo.

On the other hand, having been single for five years, Bo was immediately fascinated, and she admitted:

“I liked him instantly.” 

The actress, who turned 68 in 2024, continued:

“I kept saying to my friends, ‘I’ll wait until all the sparks and all that get going.’ And it finally happened.” 

In a January 2018 interview with Closer Weekly, she revealed that she and Corbett, who is five years her junior, value their quiet life at home:

“We both travel so much, so, for us, our favorite vacation place is home.” 

The former “Sex and the City” star elaborated on their wholesome relationship, saying:

“We enjoy each other’s company; we make each other laugh.”

In an Entertainment Tonight appearance in 2020, Bo explained that marriage was never their priority. 

The actress emphasized that their bond was rooted in their feelings, stating:

“You have to be in love. Really, deeply, in love.”

She added that a marriage contract would be “just a piece of paper,” and that they were not planning on having kids at their age. 

However, Corbett appeared on The Talk in August 2021 and confirmed they had surprisingly tied the knot around Christmas 2020 after 20 years together.

When asked about their decision to keep it to themselves, the actor said: “We’re pretty private people.” 

In April 2024, a photo of the couple was shared on X, sparking positive comments. 

Fans expressed their admiration, with one writing:

“Oh wow, they are PERFECT together!” 

“Never knew they even dated. Married. Wow. Good for them!” another added, as a third person gushed, “I love these two together!”

Derek continues to be celebrated as a graceful beauty, with followers praising her on her Instagram posts.
